Aditi Dugar

Sleep

7:45 A.M.

She shuffles into her first class.
“What’s up?”
“Tired…”
Every block,
everyday,
the answer is the same.
The day drags on,
as she longs for that one element
that no one gets enough of:
Sleep.

“How much?”
“Maybe 5 hours?”
Eight hours would be heaven.

3:00 P.M.

She goes home and stares
at her comfy bed.
But instead goes to her desk
and begins the never ending
Homework.
Eat.
Go out.
Come home.

9:30 P.M.

She stares at the clock
Talks to some friends online
still hoping that she will finish by
midnight.

11:59 P.M.

VICTORY!

She goes online to sign off
but someone reminds her
that she has forgotten
The Essay.
Sigh.

2:00 A.M.

She’s done.
For Real.
She gets into bed and falls asleep
immediately.

6:00 A.M.

The never-ending cycle begins
again.
