How to Write Prose

Light streamed into the room
A chair spun in frustrated circles
In front of a blank computer
The assignment lay face down

Just outside of the boy’s reach
A game of Frisbee had begun
Longing for the spinning white
The discouraged mind wandered

Pulled back to light and frustration
By Blood Sweat and Tears singing
“Spinning Wheel” on a an old turntable
In the center of the room

Empty screens mirrored minds
Time ticked away as
Hands moved around
The Mickey Mouse clock

Fantasies with gallant heroes
Were nowhere in sight
No princesses in need
Or swords in a stone

The records stopped turning.
Finally, the idea dawned,
“Light streamed into my room
As I spun in frustrated circles.”
