One Bomb, Two Bombs, Red, White, and Blue Bombs

After The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss

This was no time for jokes.
This was no time for fun.
This was no time for laughs.
There was war to be done.
Blow something up,
Put on a show,
Anyway,
That old Hussein had to go.

When the President came
Into work for the day,
He said, “Somebody has to
Blow all this away.
Somebody, somebody
Has to you see.”
Then he picked out a somebody.
Mr. Cheney.
Well…
There he was.
He was working with flair
And then who should come in,
But Prime Minister Blair.

“Beware!” the man said.
“Don’t you deal with that brute.
He’ll destroy all your men,
He’ll just stop to shoot.
He plays lots of bad tricks.
Don’t you let his bombs blow.
You know what’ll happen
It’ll be quite a show.”

“Losing troops?” laughed George Bush.
“Oh, my my! no, no, no!
We’ll use shock and awe,
A quick ‘In, fight, and go!’
We’ll be out in no time
Just you wait and see.
We’ll finish the job
All Iraq will be free!”

But Cheney just stood there,
Scratching his head.
“But how will the public
Accept this?” he said.
“We can say what we want
We can tell them all lies.
An extra big bomb,
We can tell them it flies!

“He’s a terrorist, we’ll say,
What everyone fears.
Then blow the man out.
They’ll support us with cheers.”

Well, the UN said, “No”
But Congress said, “Fine.”
And gave them some money,
Then said, “Have a good time.”

The French stayed back home,
Just trying to boast,
But we didn’t care.
We ate Freedom Toast.
Then Blair said, “We’re in!”
And ran off to the fight.
The Coalition of the Willing
Formed that very night.

Then the planes all took off.
The bombs started to fly.
Then the tanks all rolled out.
The men started to die.

“So you see, now we’re done.”
Bush declared with a cry.
“We have ‘Mission Accomplished!’
It was easy as pie.”
But the war was not over,
Oh no, not at all.
It was only beginning
When Hussein took the fall.

And now three years hence
With no end in sight,
Bush said, “This” and said, “That,”
But not one word was right.
He sure got his show,
Or that’s what they say.
But come next November,
His party will pay.
