Friends Forever

Hundreds of photographs lay scattered all over my bedroom floor,
Some of family and some of pets,
But most of them of old friends.
This one is my favorite of them all,
Just the three of us standing on the beach,
In front of the blue ocean and pink-orange skies during the sunset,
Never have I seen anyone as happy as we are.
High school memories flow back to me as I admire the picture,
With visions of the three of us staying up all night on the phone talking,
Gossiping, whispering,
And laughing at the stories we share about anything and everything.

It never mattered what we did,
Whether it was spending the day going out to shop ‘till we drop,
Seeing a movie and eating lunch,
Or just hanging out at one of our houses and talking,
We were with each other, and that’s what mattered most.

Looking back,
It’s as if someone had fast forwarded life on us,
And now that high school is over,
We’ve gone our separate ways.
But that doesn’t matter,
Because as time passes and our lives change,
The friendship and memories we shared together will last in my heart forever.
