Michael Kent Finally! It will always stay clear in my mind- The day the Red Sox became number one. But it took a while to hit me- The Red Sox had finally won! It was late October in 2004- The Sox made the Yankees croak. It was the improbable comeback And history's greatest choke. A-Rod, Jeter, and Matsui Did nothing when it mattered most, So the next day at school It was my turn to boast. The Yankees pitching didn't help They couldn't throw the heater, And what about Giambi and Sheffield Oh yeah, they were cheaters. Don't feel bad for the Yankees They are bad anyways, The Red Sox on the other hand Excelled in many ways. Take for example, Schilling On one ankle he was pitching, Made the Yankees look silly And kept their heads itching. Bill Mueller was always solid Jason Varitek was a rock behind the plate, New enemy Johnny Damon was a favorite Until he took the bait. And what can you say about Manny and Ortiz They're the best hitters you will ever see, Ortiz was always clutch And Manny got the MVP. World Series game four in St. Louis Where Derek Lowe was ready to go, To be honest I wasn't too confident I wanted Lenny Dinardo. 3-0 Sox in the last of the ninth Keith Foulke came into the game, A few pitches ended it promptly and Every Red Sox fan went insane. 86 years of frustration Went down the drain, I finally saw the Red Sox win And become the best team in the game.
