Run

Her knees bend
as shivers trickle down her spine.
A rush of fear flows through her body,
while she crouches at the starting line

The shot of thunder
gives the signal to let go.
As her heart beats faster,
her mind sets the flow.

Nothing can stop her,
nothing else exists,
it’s just her and the track,
she knows she can do this.

Her fast, straining breaths
are all she can hear,
as the crowd and the cheering
slowly disappear.

Her entire body goes numb.
A shot of pain bolts up her side,
Her legs yearn to collapse,
but she has just one more stride.

One last breath of air,
One last chance to shine,
giving it all she has left,
as she crosses over the finish line.
